ABOUT THE CREWS

We are a diverse community that provides emotional, spirit, and physical support for women of all colors, shapes, and sizes. Our personal touch is calling members if we haven’t seen or heard from them in 24 hours, especially those seasoned women who are living alone. Another population we benefit is African-American pregnant women who are at high risk for hypertension and diabetes during their pregnancy.

Her Story

In 2017, I had a health scare that resulted in me changing my lifestyle. I wanted to be healthy, eat healthy, and exercise, but I had bad habits that haunted me and my body image of self-hate. So I had to get my mind in the game of what wellness looked like for me at 57 years old. My accountability partner started with her nutrition and lost 5-10 lbs within 3 months. I went straight to physical fitness and gained muscle -- which wasn’t bad, but the scale stressed me out. At this point, I realized that the combination of eating healthier and exercising 5 times a week for an hour was the beginning of my weight loss journey. Plus eating 5 healthy meals a day and drinking lots of water. I had a group of women who joined me, and they changed their lifestyles and got great results too.

That’s how we created the Thick but Fit Crew.

I had fun. I had more energy. I dropped 4 dress sizes and lost 90 lbs in two years. I realized that the body image that I struggled with soon disappeared and I fell in love with being a Thick but Fit Woman.

At the time, the TBF Crew was going to different fitness centers that offered Zumba and personal trainers, but we were also spending a lot of money on our health. Those facilities were clean and friendly, but their cookie cutter models were all the same, and they lacked that personal and supportive connection. I decided to create a space for a diverse community that provides emotional, spirit, and physical support for women of all colors, shapes, and sizes.
